DIY Bath Tray

Hey Guys,

Coming through with a quick project. This time a Bath Tray. DIY style!!!

I’m typically a shower girl, I like to be in and out in 5 minutes flat. YES, you can wash everything in that amount of time 😜. With that said, not often do I find myself in a water drawn tub.

But there are times when I just need to relax, which happens to coincide with me also being cold. When I get this feeling (in my Marvin Gaye voice), I fill the tub with warm to hot water, with some smell good bubbles, dim the lights, play some soft music in the back ground, and chill with my book. (Ok, who am I kidding, my phone.)

So, I was out browsing on Pinterest and ran across a plain wood bath tray. It just wasn’t glam enough for me. So my spin on it was to add a mirror top. And that’s what I’m here to show you.

Hope you enjoy. See you at the end of the post.

Take a measurement of the distance across your bathtub

You will need to purchase 1×12 piece of wood from your local Hardware store. If needed, you can have this cut to your tub’s measurements. Or, cut it yourself.

Purchase a 1 inch dowel from your hardware store and have it cut into two 10 inch pieces. These dowel will keep your table in place on the bathtub.

To get the placements of your dowel, lay your cut board across your tub.

Take one of your dowels and place it underneath the board flat against the tub. With a pencil, trace around it.

Apply wood glue…

And apply the dowel in it’s place

Allow the glue to dry

Once dry, sand until smooth

Also sand around the edges. WE DON’T LIKE SPLINTERS!!!

I purchased this mirror from Target for $5.

Remove as much paper from the back of the mirror as possible

With a utility knife, cut away the glue that attaches the mirror to the frame

The mirror lifts right out but be careful, this glass is very fragile.

Trace the shape of the wooden structure onto the mirror with a crayon

Use a Glass Cutter to score a line and break the mirror. One straight line down will do the trick. Do not go back and forth.

As a side note, always use proper protection when cutting glass. I am wearing Goggles.

You want to sand away the sharp edges. I’m using 120 grit sand paper and am moving my sander in an up and down motion to round out the edges. Do not concentrate the sander in one place or you risk cracking the mirror. Also, make sure you wear a face mask and goggles as glass particles will be in the air.

Now for the wood, I’m applying primer

And also this paint…

I love the metallic reflection of this paint

Spray on a sealer to protect it from any water damage.

I am using Gorilla glue for the center of the table…

…and E6000 for the edges of the mirror. I wasn’t sure if the Gorilla glue would dry clear and I did not want to take any chances.

Now apply the mirror

I cleaned off any glue with Goo be Gone and Cleaned the mirror with Windex.

Hi Hazel. It was a fun and easy project. Thank you! I used the DecorArt Elegant Finish – Metallic Paint. It’s a metallic silver/gold mix. If I did another, I think I would play with some bold colors. Have fun making it and thanks for dropping by.
