Pallet Furniture DIY – Patio Sectional
Step 1.
Collect as many pallets as you can find in all colors, shapes and sizes. These can be found for free behind many retail stores. I suggest using those found behind grocery stores. Many pallets are treated with pesticides. Because they are used for food, those found at your local grocier will use the safe chemicals.
If you are having problems locating pallets, you may also find people giving them away on Craig’s List.
Step 2.
Arrange pallets in the way you want your furniture to sit. In our case, we wanted an L-shaped sectional using the house for the back of one side of the sectional.
Step 3.
Remove planks from the pallets. Use the better looking planks for your seating.
Step 4.
Since your pallets are in different sizes, the planks will be in different sizes as well. They may need to be cut down to size.
Step 5.
Nail the cut planks to your seating.

How long do the cushions take to dry?
Ok, I will admit I still have not taken the time to waterproof them but if I had, it would take no time at all. Since I have not and until I do, I transport the cushions in and out of the garage during bad weather.
You and your husband did a great job!!! I have seen some long pallets like you used here, but usually, I’ve never seen more than one at a time. When I see another long pallet, it’s never the same type of construction, so they wouldn’t stack together well. But, the same results are possible with a bunch of standard pallets.
Thank you. Yes that was the case with us too. We had to collect a lot of pallets just to find 6 that would work.
This is GORGEOUS!!! I love working with pallets but had never thought of doing this, and I have the perfect space too!! Thanks for the inspo and such a detailed guide!
Hey Carmel! Thank you chica. It was such a fun project and I’m estatic how it turned out.

Has the hot glue held up in the outdoor weather on the cushions?
Hi Aubrey. It’s held up so far, although I bring the cushions in during the winter months and/or very bad weather.

Thank you for these pallet ideas, do you have one on how to do a frame type for the garden. I am fed up with going to stores and the cost is outrageous for me on fixed income. Thank you.
Do you think it was easier to paint after it was all set or before?
I am very excited to start this project, do you know roughly how many pallets you used if I am making the same L design. Thank you for the inspiration!!
I liked the thought of painting afterward so that it could set without being handled. I think I collected about 10-12 pallets and used pieces from almost all of them.

How do you water proof the cushion?
The cushion is foam. I didn’t waterproof the foam cushion, just the fabric. I believe I used Scotchguard.
You can use waterproof fabric spray like Scotchgard.
Hi Angela. Love love love your DIY. So much so that I am in the middle making making it right now. I’m in San Antonio and the virus is going on, so I have plenty of time right now. But I do have a question. How did you put the wood block legs on? I watch your video over and over, and I also have a brad nailer. But when I’m doing it, it not really secure and I’m able to just pull it right off. Any suggestions please!!!!!!
We used 2 to 3 nails on each side of the leg. We shot them at an angle into the base of the sectional. It was very secure. You could also use Gorilla wood glue to hold it in place while you nail. This stuff is really strong and could hold it without nails. We didn’t need it, so I don’t remember using any.
Hi…
Thank you for sharing your project and steps. I’ve been looking for inexpensive outdoor furniture that I can create. Can you let me know how many pallets used? And how much time?
I think it was about 9 pallets and their parts.
Maybe 9

Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I’m very glad to see such fantastic information being shared freely out there.
